Notes from the 3rd World Congress on Adult Guardianship – Washington, DC.

Posting by A. Frank Johns, JD, LLM, CELA, CAP

Chair, National Guardianship Network

I’m sitting in a crowded ballroom among professionals from 21 countries. We’re here for the convening of the 3rd World Congress on Adult Guardianship. The previous two Congresses were held in Japan, 2010, and in Australia, 2012.

Currently a panel is presenting on comparative perspectives on adult guardianship. The topic is premised on a book just published by Carolina Academic Press of the same name by A. Kimberly Drayton. The person at the podium is Professor Emeritus Kim Dayton of the Williams Mitchell School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I contributed the chapter on the history of modern guardianship law.

As the Congress unfolds, I’ll be sharing notes and comment on important issues in guardianship from around the world.
